Kylie and Jackson gave us quite a ride a little while ago and it started when both of them came down with high fevers. Jackson developed the feared "bark-like cough" and I knew right away that he had croup. As you may know, we don't take croup lightly in our family after Kylie's incident in 2006. Kylie didn't develop the cough this time but suddenly could not keep anything down...not even ice chips! Both of them started to get worse as the day went on so we got them in to the doctor ASAP where they treated Jackson's croup with a dose of steroid and sent us to have exrays of Kylie's chest because her lungs sounds "crackily." The results came back...Kylie had pneumonia! The throwing up part is not a symptom of pneumonia, but because of her high fever and history of having a sensitive stomach, everything she swallowed came imediately back up. The doctor hooked her up to an IV to rehydrate her and give her an antibiotic. She was very delirious and couldn't stay awake. We stayed there for several hours until she started coming to and then they finally let us take her home once she showed that she could keep liquids down and could make sense when she was talking. They sent her home with the IV still attached so they could administer more meds the next day. She was given a priesthood blessing in the midst of all this and the next day she was more herself again...obviously! Jackson began to recover after another dose of steroid the following day as well. We are very thankful for the many prayers in our behalf.
